Litigation / Dispute ResolutionCharles A Gomez was called to the Bar in London in 1982. He has practiced In Gibraltar for over 20 years.

In recent years he has led as counsel for the successful parties in several major trials & arbitrations most recently ;

    • The largest ever-clinical negligence damages award (2002).
    • Gibraltar Gold Coin Company case (2004) in which the Court of Appeal declared import duty on gold coins to be null and void.
    • S v United Kingdom (2005) a major extradition case.
    • Re; EB (2006) Multi jurisdiction contractual dispute.
    • Re; (2006) Rosia Tanks rights of light litigation.
    • In 2009 we acted for the then Chief Justice of Gibraltar, the Hon. Mr. Justice Schofield in a reference to a seven member Board of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London.
    • Re; Clifftops House judicial review of planning permission for new power station (2010).

     

He has made submissions to the European Commission in relation to State Aid and Gibraltar Finance Centre.
